Hello Fellow Truth Students,
“Correct Prayer”
The book of James tells us that we pray but we pray wrongly. One might ask how they could pray incorrectly. Charles Fillmore’s definition of prayer is “conscious communion with God.” Somehow I don’t hear asking for a new car, or money, or a relationship in that definition. And yet, of course, we want many of these items. I guess the term “effective prayer” is what we are seeking to experience. .
Recently I read in A Course in Miracles that “perception is not an attribute of God. “His is the realm of knowledge”. As I read that I realized I have been asking God to be what God is not. And I have been asking God to do what God does not do. I have been asking God to perceive my lack. I have been praying that God perceive a lack of money, love, security, faith, friendship, sex, work, health, home, nice conditions, peace, and anything else I am perceiving as missing from my life. Somehow it doesn’t occur to me to shift my conscious vision in order to see the presence of all that’s missing from my life. Instead I want God to perceive a lack in my life and fix it. Then I get confused as to why it hasn’t gotten fixed. If by some “fluke” I do get something I then shout to the world, “See how good God is, he gave me the rent money, a partner, a new job, etc.” It doesn’t occur to me that my own consciousness shifted to make room for those things. It seems that in my confused state I would rather think my prayers of begging and asking God to be what God is what gave me the “stuff I want”. But no, that has not been the case and it never will be the case.
“God is the realm of knowledge.” That means I have the knowledge within me to know that all that I desire is available to me now (whether I’m conscious of that knowledge or not.) Take this time now to remind yourself that you and I have true knowledge within us. We have the information necessary to know what to think and say and do in regards to any and every situation. What’s more, we have the know-how to think, say, and do everything peacefully and in the name of love. And all we have to do to access it is to go within and ask the Voice within us. Ask how to be willing to see it. Ask how to appreciate it. Ask if it is what you really want. Ask the voice for God what to think about it.
Today let your prayers be a simple communion within the mind of God. Sit quietly and breathe. Throughout your day constantly remind yourself of your God nature and your real identity as a child of God. Silently remind others and when it is appropriate remind them out loud.
